Oswald Winery
The Oswald Winery is located in Wahlheim, Rheinhessen around 1 hour south of Frankfurt. Our business is familiy operated and was taken over by the young winemaker Simon Mueller-Oswald and Klara Mittruecker in March 2017. The long winemaking tradition and the experiences that were passed from generation to generation over the last decades make our wines special.
Our Wines
Working sustainable and treating every bit gently is forming the basis for the high quality wines we love to produce. That means real handcraft, just for you!

The vineyards
As we love our vines we treat them in a sustainable and gentle way. We get a lot of work done by hand to guarantee a high grape quality. Good grapes form the basis for extraordinary wines. We sow various plants, flowers and herbs in our vineyards to support biodiversity. During summer we have some little fleecy helpers for mowing and defoliation.

Rheinhessen
We choose the best soils and terroir for each variety as we grow our vines all over Rheinhessen. Our sites in Wahlheim have a remarkable amount of limestone that stores the heat, in Siefersheim a cooler climate and vulcanic soils creates minerality. The vines we grow in Alsheim grow on sandy and gravelly soils at the river rhine where it is very warm.

Our Philosophy
Wine is our passion! We connect tradition with modern winemaking techniques. Our knowledge, our experiences and a lot of sentiment are used to work in harmony with nature, our sites, soils and vines to turn the best grapes into terrific wines. That means real handcraft, just for you.
Simon Mueller-Oswald
Simon always knew what he wanted to do when he is grown up: making wine! Since the time he was a little boy he always helped in the family owned winery and got to know the work there – and started loving it! From 2010 on Simon did a University course in Viticulture and Enology in Neustadt/Weinstrasse and worked in the famous wineries Peth-Wetz and Wittmann.
His first own vintage was 2011 – in 2015 he was 23 years old and won an award for the best Pinot Noir in Rheinhessen. You can feel his passion for wine: he does every step from planting the vines to botteling the wines with dedication.
Winemaking
Klara and Simon work on the wines in separate cellars. Both have their own signature but the same philosophy: The gentle settling of the must and the spontanious fermentation with wild yeasts ensure a maximum of aroma and a complex taste without using additives. Aging in different types of barrels from stainless steal to french oak gives every wine an individual character.
Klara Müller-Oswald
Klara grew up in a winemakers family in Rheinhessen and works as a winemaker now after her Viticulture and Enology studies in Geisenheim and her time in the wineries Zelt and Neiss.
In 2016 she enjoyed her big journey around the world: Klara worked in a New Zealand winery and travelled North- and Central America, Asia and Australia with her backpack. Coming home with lots of impressions and a little more life experience she now supports Simon in the winery, works in her cellar in Siefersheim and loves to look after the customers needs but is also seen on the tractor once in a while to take care about the vineyards.

Village Wines
Our Village wines are grown around the villages Wahlheim, Siefersheim and Alsheim. The wines show the typical terroir of the vineyards around the villages. To underline the caracter of those wines we use new or aged oak barrels to bring in some relish.

ALSHEIMER & SIEFERSHEIMER Chardonnay
Our Chardonnays are fermented in new french oak barrels. In Siefersheim we grow the vines on vulcanic soil. The cool climate there brings in a elegant minerality and crisp acidity with herbal notes. The very warm site in Alsheim at the river rhine is perfect to make a full-bodied and lavish Chardonnay with flavours of ripe quince and apricot.

WAHLHEIMER Silvaner & Weißburgunder
Our Silvaner and Pinot Blanc from Wahlheim grow on lime at a southern slope to get the maximum of sun. The wines are harmonic and creamy with a rich flavour and a well balanced acidity. We age them in used french oak barrels to get underlying smoky caramel notes.

SIEFERSHEIMER St. Laurent
St. Laurent is a old traditional variety better known from Austria. Concentrated notes of plum and dark berries, combined with the typical elegancy and minerality from Siefersheim soils make this red very special and harmonic.
